PROGRAM GOALS - SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Cooperation is the key to create peaceful and inclusive societies. The establishment of alliances has always greater impact.
Mr Deligiannis, Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Larisa (department of social policies) inspired us on how local authorities can support actions for refugees and how they can deal with challenges .

Interantional and local NGO's can always help in the field of refugees. The Vice President of Red Cross and Intervolve Ngo shared the values and the methods they use as organizations dealing with refugees.
Youth workers, educators and social workers can use different tools and manuals to cultivate and teach human rights education.

We presented manuals such as "Bookmarks", "Compass", "Mirrors" and introduced them to participants on how to use them.

Sports are a universal language that bring people together, break language barriers and transform the otherness into friendly. We had a special guest, Simon Diatta from Yökoris (YMCA Helsinki) who is working in the inclusion of young children (refugees and immigrants) through sports.

In continuing we introduced Hate Speech to the participants. We discussed the definition, we explored different kinds of hate speech, we worked on real cases from national context and we introduced No Hate Speech Movement.

From the past we can always learn..
We started with the socio-historical evolution of Xenophobia-Islamophobia. Xenophobia, direct democracy in ancient Athens and the destruction of Smirni (1922) were analyzed by the expert sociologist Leonidas Delligiannidis.

What are the needs of refugees ? What's their story ?.. Is the reality far from what we believe ? Which emotions emerged ?
The story telling of a Refugee woman gave us the answers!
She told us her life story, her feelings, her truths, her children's dreams... the emotional life experiences turned to actions, turned to reality ...

A crisis in order to be faced needs orientated actions that can oppose to all perspectives.
We reflected upon the procedure the strategies and the arguments that should be used and we discussed the meaning and the goal of simulating activities.
